24h Farm Field Trip A hands on u-pick experience for classes Gr. 4 to 12

Spend a day and night in the life of a farmer!

Price: $75/student. Min $900 (up to 12 students)

Standard Program Itinerary

10:00am - Arrival.

10:00am to 10:30 - Sleeping area set up.

10:30 to 12:00 - Hands-on Farm Orientation. We will go over boundaries and expectations on the farm (1h30).

12:00 to 1pm - Free Time and Lunch in the Orchard (Bring your packed lunch).

1 to 4:30pm - Farm Programming (2 activities and a break).

From 5pm: Free time and dinner! Explore the farm and surrounding ecosystems! and take care of yourself. Hike to the river, camp fire, marshmallows...

Around 7pm: Evening Farm Chores -may include closing in the chickens and ducks for the night or feeding and watering the goats.

8:30-9 Preparation for bedtime

9-10 pm Quiet time
Enjoy the peace and quiet of this rural farm. Watch the owls and bats hunting over the orchard or go on a sensory walk exploring the farm in darkness.

10:30 Bed time
Get cozy in our hayloft and bed down for the night. With the horses underneath you and barn owls in the rafters it is sure to be an unforgettable night. The hayloft is not insulated, so be prepared for the temperature.

7:30-8:30am - Farm Chores
Feeding and watering the animals

8:30-9:30am - Breakfast
Oatmeal, fruit (according to harvest), milk and coffee will be provided.

9:30-10 - Departure
Pack up and prepare for going back to school.

Our Facilities

Hayloft. This is where your group will be sleeping unless you choose to set up camp in the orchard. The hayloft is divided into the out-of-bounds hay storage area, and the straw pile. There is a bouldering wall next to the straw pile. Please keep your voices to a library level.

Covered Deck and Library. This area is approximately 15 feet by 40 feet.

Cob Oven Shelter. The food preparation area. Home to the pizza oven, root cellar, sinks, and propane stove.

Toilets. There are 2 toilets you can use on the property: 1 beautiful new toilet by the compost pile, a toilet next to the office, and a composting toilet in the hayloft. There are several sinks scattered around the farm for hand washing.
Fire Pit. To roast marshmallows at night :)

What to bring - and not.

Participants: Lunch. Clothes for the weather, winter weight sleeping bag, sleeping pad, toothbrush, flashlight, change of clothes, cutlery and plate, bowl, cup, water-bottle, book, any medications, snacks. Optional: games, instruments, camera, food to share.

Leaders: as above, plus: dinner, extra marshmallows and extra breakfast for your group, activities for GAP time, extra flashlights, earplugs for fussy sleepers, group list with medical information, signed waivers for each member of your group, snack food for the group, any extra cooking and baking equipment you may require.

What not to bring. Video games, cell phones, expensive jewelry and clothes that need to stay clean.

We provide: Oatmeal, fruits (according to harvest) and coffee for breakfast and marshmallows to roast on the fire at night!
