Kids Farm Club

Fridays, 10 AM – 3 PM
April 4th – June 20th (No session April 18 – Good Friday)

Kids' Farm Club at Southlands Heritage Farm is a hands-on, outdoor adventure designed for kids aged 6-12 who want to explore farm life, build connections with animals, and deepen their understanding of nature's seasonal rhythms. Participants will engage in farm chores, learn practical outdoor skills, enjoy interactive games, and have fun experiencing the beauty of a working farm. Rain or shine—we'll be outside, so please dress for the weather and remember to bring lunch, snacks, and a reusable water bottle!

Important Notes:

  • Payment is required upfront for the entire season.

  • Sessions and activities may be adjusted due to operational needs.

  • Due to staffing constraints, we cannot accommodate make-up sessions.

Weekly Farm Adventures:

April 4 – Welcome to Farm Life!
Dive right into farm routines! Meet and feed goats Peaches, Oreo, Peanutbutter, and Goaty. Gather eggs from our ducks and chickens (all named HEN-rietta). Enjoy a farm scavenger hunt and animal bingo game!

April 11 – Spring Survival & Bushcraft Basics
Learn bushcraft skills: identifying local plants, safe wood chopping, and fire-lighting skills. Make natural cordage for shelters using farm materials. Participate in a friendly survival skills relay race.

(April 18 – No session, Good Friday)

April 25 – Messy Farm Fun
Get your hands dirty! Build mason-bee hives, bug houses, and create small bee-friendly habitats. Experiment with beeswax to make your own candles. Finish with a muddy obstacle course!

May 2 – Water Wonders & Pond Exploration
Discover pond ecosystems, perform pond dips, and meet fascinating aquatic critters. Enjoy river walks to the Fraser River via Deering Island—bring your gumboots! Play water-themed games like water relay races and "pond creature" tag.

May 9 – Animal Care & Farm Vet Basics
Gain experience with animal care, observing our sheep (Flash and Toque), caring for Pumba the pig, and understanding basic veterinary care for farm animals, including health checks. Engage in farm animal trivia games and interactive animal observation activities.

May 16 – Plant Power & Spring Gardens
Plant spring veggies and herbs in the farm gardens, learning about growth cycles and companion planting. Get to know edible wild plants growing around the farm. Participate in a gardening scavenger hunt and seed-planting relay races.

May 23 – Farm Ecosystems & Pollinators
Explore how plants, animals, and insects work together. Study mason bees in action, observe pollination, and discover how farmers support these important pollinators. Enjoy pollinator-themed games and crafts such as "Bee Tag" and building mini pollinator habitats.

May 30 – From Farm to Table: Baking & Cooking
Harvest ingredients and explore farm-to-table cooking. Prepare simple recipes like fresh herb breads or garden salads. Ingredient lists provided ahead for allergies/preferences. Enjoy food-themed games like "Taste Test Challenge."

June 6 – Shelter Building & Outdoor Skills
Build shelters from natural farm materials. Practice teamwork and learn survival skills, including outdoor safety and weather awareness. Enjoy team-building activities and outdoor scavenger hunts.

June 13 – Life Cycles & Animal Families
Observe farm animal life cycles closely: chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, and Donkey Hodie the donkey. Learn about caring for baby animals and seasonal changes on a working farm. Participate in animal-themed relay games and storytelling sessions.

June 20 – Celebrating Summer: Bonfire & Farm Feast
Celebrate the summer solstice with a bonfire, storytelling, songs, and outdoor games. Cook delicious farm-inspired treats over the fire, marking the end of an amazing farm season! Enjoy classic games like sack races and "Capture the Flag."
