Spring Break Pony Camp (for 6-12 year olds) CAD$425Purchase required to enroll

Why Pony Camps? (Because it's so much fun!)

    • Horses are incredible creatures with so much to teach us.
    • They live in the present and can help us stay grounded.
    • They accept without judgment and can help us be authentic.
    • They communicate with their bodies and can teach us about boundaries.
    • They work together and can teach us about relationship.
    • They are sensitive and can teach us about empathy.
    • Finally they are FUN and can teach us how AMAZING life can be!
Our camps are geared towards never-been-on-a-horse riders or beginner riders. Older children, or those who can already canter independently, might prefer our private lessons -- or try our Farm Camps.
Many children spend the whole day on the farm... riding half the day and at farm camp half the day. Lunch time supervision is available.

Spring Break Farm Camp (for 6-12 year olds) CAD$249Purchase required to enroll

Why Southlands Farm Camps? (because it's so much fun!)
    • What is your earliest memory of being on a farm?
    • What did it teach you about life that you can still remember today?
For many people living in cities, farm camps were their only experiences on farms as children and teenagers. These adventures are fundamental to understanding our food systems, appreciating healthy farming, and developing wonder and care for the natural world. At Southlands Farm, we take a stand to inspire mind-full behaviour and sustain-able stewardship. This isn't your typical day camp. It is a real, rustic farm experience where kids learn life and survival skills. Our Farm Educators are highly skilled, knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate.

Chicks in the Classroom - Set-Up Visit CAD$350 per appointment

Our farm educator will come to your classroom with an incubator, a brooder, and some fertilized eggs. In the presentation the students will learn about the realities of chicken farming, with information appropriate to their age level. We set up the schedule so that the eggs should hatch on a school day, and then the chicks are placed in a brooder. You keep them for about a week, and then you will bring them to the farm for a hands-on field trip, with further learning about hens, roosters, and eggs. They will also tour the farm and learn about the goats, sheep, horses, bees.
Hatching chicks in your classroom can be such a rewarding experience! We have seen countless students who are typically disengaged in a classroom setting suddenly feel real responsibility and pride in their new role as a farmer.
Hatching chicks is typically done in Grades k, 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7 to meet the Life Sciences learning objectives, but it goes over well in any grade, and high schoolers even benefit from the fun, seriousness, deeper thinking, teamwork, and mentor-ship that can be incorporated into a chicks in the classroom program. We are super enthusiastic and keen to make this an incredible experience for your class, and an easy experience for you.
